Waiting for the Storm to pass

We drove up the road as far as we could to get close to Clingman's Dome.
I stayed in the small parking lot and waited for the storm to blow through.
It was windy and cold. Peter ventured the additional walk up the mountain path.

At 6643 feet, Clingman's Dome is the highest point in the park.
It is also the highest point in Tennessee and the second highest point east of the
Mississippi. But less than 1/2 the height of mountains that we have
become used to seeing while traveling in Colorado and Wyoming.
Less height but still very dramatic!

We were expecting to see a spectacular sunset but it never materialized.
After waiting some time, Peter climbed back down and
we returned to our Condo for a late supper.
